1. d4 Sf6 2. c4 e6 3. Sc3 Lb4 4. a3 Saemisch variati on in the Nimzo-Indian, white has some profound plans to push e4 after f3. 4... Lxc3+ Thema of this opening, is the Bishop Exchange Justified ? Surely the Conny won't play the best plan to demonstrate it is justified. 5. bxc3 O-O 5... c5 6. e3 Sc6 7. Ld3 O-O Is slighly better 6. f3 6. Lg5 c5 6... d5 Now White must get rid of the double pawn , before black plays c5. 7. cxd5 exd5 Represents a more balanced centre as capturing with a Knight that has to retreat 7... Sxd5 8. c4 Sf6 8. e3 White plan is to Play Bd3, Ne2, 0-0, Re1 and e4, e5 ... black has no defense against it except b6, Ba6 to lower the pressure exchanging bishops. 8... Te8 9. Ld3 b6 10. Se2 And the openingtheory continues with Ba6 giving black a solid game compared to the Connys variation. 10... Sbd7 I won't call it a bad move, but no Grandmaster will ever play it. Comparing only with the main move Ba6, its clear its no good. 10... La6 11. Lc2 c5 12. O-O Sc6 11. O-O Lb7 After Nbd7, of course Ba6 is no longer an option, so the bishop is now looking against its own pawn. The only advantage is that is controlls e4 a bit more, but white has many resources. Ng3, Re1, Qc2 and e4 goes... 12. Sg3 Db8? The Conny doesn't know what to do, clearly c5 is a valid option. 12... c5 13. Te1 14... c4 is not effective only after an eventual Qc2. 13... Dc7 13. Dc2!? Again in support of e4 but , there is a small but after c5, e4, either c4 or cxd4... 13... a6?? The Conny chooses to wait, but there is no waiting in this position.... 13... c5 14. e4 c4 15. Le2 dxe4 16. fxe4 Sxe4 17. Lxc4 Sdf6 And black is not too bad... 14. e4 c5? Too late... a Knight will go ... 14... Sf8 To free up a square for the Night on f6 as it has no fields to go... 15. e5 S6d7 16. Ld2 c5 17. Sf5 15. e5 c4 16. Lf5 g6 17. Lh3 Blacks position is hopeless... that soon ! 17. exf6! Sxf6 18. Dd2 Lc8 (18... gxf5?? 19. Dg5+ Kf8 20. Dxf6) 19. Dh6 Lxf5 20. Sxf5 gxf5 21. Dg5+ Kf8 22. Dxf6 17... Sxe5 18. Lf4! Yes the Knight is pinned ! 18... Sxf3+ 18... Sfd7?? 19. Lxd7 19. Se4 Only Move or Rxe5 and Ne8 is also possible 21. Sxe4 dxe4 22. Tf6 b5 Tricky move, now Raf1 fails on Rxe5 ! 23. Df2 23. Txf7 Kxf7 24. Df2+ Kg8 (24... Ke7 25. Df6#) 25. Df6 Txe5 Only move to not go checkmate 26. Dxe5 Ok the Rook sacrifice is nice for PC Chess engines, not for real humans ....; 23... Ld5 24. Td6! Lb7?? 24... Db7 25. Df6 Txe5 26. Dxe5 Lc6 25. Df6? Missed the most splendid combination Rd7 !!! 25. Td7 Mat in 25... Tf8 (25... f5 26. Dh4) 26. Df6 25... Txe5 26. Dxe5 Tf8 27. De7 Da8 28. Tf1 Ld5 29. Ld7 In my opinion to avoid e3 & Re8.... 29. Dd7! Lb7 30. Le6 fxe6 31. Dxe6+ Kh8 32. Td7! 29... Lb7? 30. Tdf6 30. Txf7 Txf7 31. Le6 Df8 32. Df6 And black will go mate... 30... Ld5 31. Td6 Lb7 32. Df6 I just didn't see the killing move ... 32... e3 33. Lc6 Lxc6 34. Txc6 De8 35. Te1 De4 36. Df3 Dc2 37. Dxe3 a5 38. d5 Db3 39. d6 1-0 [Stefan Timmermans]
